a review of Delilah's Vampire by lisa-clare
There were parts of this book I loved, but parts I didn't feel connected to. Once I got past chapter three I was hooked. I liked the spin on an old tale and the embellishments of that story which I thought was very clever, especially bringing it in to the modern age... There were times when I thought I might have missed something that later was explained and could see that the author wanted to create twists and although the twists were good, I didn't flow in to them and felt a little confused before the reveal and found myself rereading paragraphs to check if I had read them right. I eventually just learned to keep reading and things would slot into place. I liked the links with Nancy and Luc.. I liked the point of view of Keller - it was good to see a reluctant vampire rather than the usual wow this is amazing look at my powers! The main concern for me with this book was the emotions were missing in the life changing areas of the story.... The passion and connection between Ash and Ariana really came through but when characters had life changing events happen to them this needed padding out rather than I got the feeling they just shrugged there shoulders and accepted whatever it was that had happened. For example Ariana getting her memories back... There was no confusion, no oh my god moment she just blinked and flowed into it.. It wasn't like Delilah persona took over or Ariana felt all the lives came back. . it was as though she went "oh OK then". Later in the story there needed to be more about how she felt.. Not at the pivitol moment as that would spoilt the plot but later there was just nothing. On a positive note the ending could be easily made into book two etc, or left as is which is intriguing if there is a continuation to come.
