Ms. Joseph blew me away with the emotional read!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Based upon past experience, I know that when I read a book by the incredibly talented Annabel Joseph that I am going to be entertained and moved by compelling characters and an emotional storyline. But I wasn’t prepared for how emotional I would feel after reading My Naughty Minette, the third book in the Properly Spanked series. I certainly didn’t expect to be brought to tears, both happy and sad, as our hero and heroine learned to love each other.

We were previously introduced to Minette and August in the previous books in the series and I had already fallen in love with Minette’s sweetness, sassiness and ability to bring love and joy to all those she cares for. She has been in love with her brother’s best friend for what seems like forever but she fears that August will never return that love. August does care for Minette, but not in a romantic manner. He has known Minette since she was a little girl and even helped her brother raise her. He views her as a little sister until circumstances force the two to marry. Now he has to deal with his changing views about Minette, while his past prevents him from admitting his love.

My Naughty Minette differed from the other books in the series because the heroine is already in love with the hero. In fact, it was Minette’s unrequited love that first tugged at my heartstrings. I don’t think there is anyone who has not been in that position and understands how painful it can be to watch the one you love not love you. Minette continued to earn my admiration as she fought for August and her marriage. Ms. Joseph wrote the character so brilliantly that long after finishing the book, I was still smiling and thinking of how Minette made me laugh.

August was your typical brooding romance hero and I alternated between wanting to smack him and hug him. He truly struggled with his growing feelings for the woman who he thought of as a little sister. The scars left by his past ran deep and even though his actions made me angry, I finally understood why Minette loved him so.

There was so much emotion in this book and I found myself grabbing for the tissues several times. Ms. Joseph completely blew me away with her ability to touch my heart and soul. I felt Minette’s pain as if it were my own and I grieved along with August when he realized how much he had hurt his wife. When you find yourself talking out loud to your book, then you know that your entire being has become intertwined into the story.

There were still plenty of the hot and steamy scenes that you have come to expect from Ms. Joseph. The sexual chemistry between August and Minette practically set my e-reader on fire.

My Naughty Minette was the perfect blend of drama, love, angst and passion. If I wasn’t already a huge fan of Ms. Joseph and this series, I certainly would be after reading this book. Fortunately for me, and other fans, there is still one more friend destined to find love. I’ll be counting down the days until that release.
