I love a good second change romance, and this story was about as good as it gets. I couldn't wait to learn more about Mitch ever since we first met him in book 1. Mitch and Sydney were engaged, but their relationship ends when Sydney wants to postpone the wedding. Sydney seeks him out 10 years later, and after a rocky start, sparks start flying once again.
Mitch is a complex character, and I really felt for him as he struggled to overcome the pain from his past. Sydney is a unique blend of strength and vulnerability, and it is hard not to love her. Together they balance each other out. The romance, as always, was on point. It took a while for Mitch and Syd to work through their issues, but it was clear that they feelings for each other still remained. The suspense and mystery added another layer to the story, and I was shocked by the villain! I definitely did not see that coming.
I loved the handkerchiefs as well as the southern phrases that are sprinkled throughout the story. I also loved the tie in to Persuasion--one of my favorite novels! The writing was excellent, and the pacing of the story really kept me engaged. I couldn't put the book down and am so excited for book 3!
**I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
