Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this book from NovelReviewers.com in exchange for an honest review.
Simply put, I liked this book. It's not a dark and mysterious romance, full of complicated twists and turns. It's not a story wrought with tension, tearful confessions, and emotional angst. But don't mistake my observations for criticisms. Some plots and characters need all of that to meet their potential. This book does not.
I liked this book because, quite simply, it's a good book. The characters were easy to cheer for. The writing was witty and fluid. There was a colorful cast of characters including a grumpy and sexy father, a maternally clueless and yet endearing heroine, moody siblings, a famous drag queen, and a very precocious and emotionally intuitive little girl.
This is a story about getting a second chance at love, and finding that chance in an unexpected place. It's about having to reinvent your life's trajectory before you even had a chance to imagine it. This is a story about emotional healing and emotionally maturing. It's also a story about forgiveness and family. Capturing You touches on all of these themes, and does so without asking for a large emotional investment from the reader. Rather, it approaches these themes from a lighthearted perspective that manages to be entertainingly engaging without being shallow.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series, and I'd suggest this book to anybody seeking an entertaining vacation or weekend read.
