Biography:

I'm a medical research scientist in my 50s. I've published over 50 scientific papers and reviews and written many, many successful (and unsuccessful) grant applications. I mention this because part of being a successful scientific writer is learning to write well and explain difficult concepts simply and clearly. I've also mentored many postgraduate students, helping them to improve their writing skills.

I've loved reading and buying books ever since I could read and had control over my pocket money and visiting bookshops and libraries are amongst my favourite occupations. I've raised two boys, now in their twenties, and have enjoyed their discovery of the love of reading and books from children's books through to YA novels. I read widely, loving most genres but especially contemporary literature, the classics, good science fiction, historical novels, crime and mystery. I'm not a big fan of romance, but a good love story set in an interesting background is fine. I'm a member of Goodreads, most active in Aussie Readers where I'm usually in the top 30 best reviewers and also regularly post reviews on Amazon and Netgalley. I'm too busy to have a blog but plan to start working part time in the next few years and would love to start blogging about what I read.
