"You won't die tonight"

Seven Souls starts off strong with a child predicting an accident but telling the victim she will not die. All of this quickly comes to pass and then the story slows down as it develops the characters and introduces the setting. I could see some readers not being able to get past this area of the book. I didn't feel very invested in the story at this point. About halfway through the story picks back up and draws the reader back in. There are angels, demons and other entities passing between the realms in Harrow and the body count is rising. The pacing of the story increases and there is plenty to keep the reader engaged until the end. The characters seem well thought out. The relationship between Phoebe and Charlie as partners was very thoroughly developed so I hope that means we get to see more of him in the next book. Tabitha, the little girl, is a very enjoyable character. I also really liked the idea of Victoria, the demon who owns a funeral home and processes angel bodies for release from earth. I wish Phoebe, the main character, had a little more spunk. Jack, Tabitha's father, mysterious and brooding single dad, is keeping a lot of secrets. The ending left so many questions unanswered that there is an unlimited potential for the rest of the series. All in all, a good start to a series. I will be interested to see where this series goes.
